Girls Wrestling Starts Season with a 2nd Place Finish at Monroe Central

The Lady Tiger wrestlers competed at the 2nd Annual Monroe Central Invitational Saturday and brought home the 2nd place trophy. The team was shorthanded, with a few wrestlers competing with the Lady Tiger Rugby team at the Michigan Girls Rugby State Championships this weekend. Only 11 girls participated and filled up 10 out of 14 weight classes. Even without thei full line up, Warsaw placed 2nd overall, with all 11 girls on the podium! Four out of the eleven wrestlers competed for the first time in their individual careers Mariana Morgan went 1-1 with 1 fall in first period during her first match ever. She continued to place 2nd. Sadie Reed wrestled difficult matches and earned great mat time experience and moved on to place 4th. Zoe Ortega wrestled tough all day and came out 5th. Kynna Yoder went 3-0 and came out on top for the second year in a row! She was the 120 champion. Makayla McGlennen had a tough bracket with the 120 pound returning state champion being her first match of the day. She wrestled tough and showed great match awareness to work her up back up to place 6th. Claris Avila came out strong and motivated and wrestled tough, compiling a record of 4-2 to place 5th. Emma DeWald dominated the tournament, but had a tough last match in the finals to get 2nd place! Cadence Escoto wrestled well and showed great perseverance, but had tough matches. She left today 1-2 with a win by pin in the first period. Mayra Gonzalez-Vera wrestled in her first tournament ever and wrestled into a tough finals match and placed second over all. Audrianna Gonzalez left today with a record of 3-1 with her only loss being to Mariana Castro, our returning state finalist. Mariana Castro went 4-0 to be the 155 pound champion!
