The Warsaw Wrestling team was in action at on of the toughest tournaments in the state of Indiana on Friday; the Al Smith Classic in Mishawaka. The Tigers finished day 1 in 25th place out of 32 teams. Warsaw had some quality performances from a lot of their guys, but did not advance anyone into the top 8 for day 2. Leading the way for Warsaw with 3-2 records were Leo Castro and Owen Corbin, making it into the “round to go.” Castro (Sr, 144) picked up a couple of gritty wins by decision in rounds 1 & 4, and had a win by pin early in the consolation rounds. Corbin (Jr, 285) was a winner by major decision to start the day before being knocked into the consos. He then picked up tough wins by decision to keep moving forward. Gabe Veit and Tristan Wood both went 2-2 for Warsaw. Veit (Sr, 126) was a winner by pin in round one and in his first conso match. Wood (Fr, 106) dropped his first match but then picked up a win by forfeit and another by decision. Warsaw will be back on the mat on Wednesday when they host South Bend Riley. It will be Senior Night for the Tigers and their last home contest of the season.
