Castro Advances to Girls State Wrestling Finals

The Lady Tigers competed at the Plymouth Girls Wrestling Regional Saturday. 6 wrestlers who advanced from the Plymouth Sectional last weekend competed, and one Lady Tiger is headed to Indy for the state finals. Freshmen Mariana Morgan(100) and Mya Williamson(115) as well as junior Audrianna Gonzalez(170) gained indispensable experience today that they will be able to carry with them into next year. Senior Kynna Yoder at 125 competed in her final high school match today after 5 years of wrestling in the program. She lost her match in the ticket round, but Coach Alise Terhune says she "wrestled with heart and determination." Senior Emma Dewald competed at 135 and also wrestled her final high school match after 3 years of wrestling at Warsaw. "We can applaud Emma on all of her hard work and earned successes throughout her time with us," Terhune said. DeWald made it to the ticket round match with a win by pin, but lost the ticket round match to Hobart. Senior Mariana Castro punched her ticket to the IHSAA State Finals Friday for the second year in a row at 155 Castro dominated the first two rounds of Regionals with a first period pin and an 8-1 decision. She lost the third round to Highland, but moved on to the placement round. In the placement round Castro defeated Hobart with a second-period win by pin to finish 3rd.
