The Warsaw Tigers opened their NLC season by visiting Mishawaka and Goshen on a cloudy Wednesday and posted a 93-39 win over the Cavemen and a 103-28 victory over the Redhawks. Expectations were high as Tigers looked to defend their 4 straight NLC titles with the rising Mishawaka Cavemen looking to take a shot at the Tigers Not to be left out, Goshen brought a number of high caliber runners who looked to push to the front of the distance races and field events. Warsaw was led by event winners: Cayson Johnson (100m and 200m) Michael Schenck (400m) Jackson Gackenheimer (800m and 3200m) Parker Sweet (110H) Sam Allebach (300H) Tucker Reed (Pole Vault) Jordan Randall (High Jump) Quinton Wilson (Discus) 4x100m (C.Johnson, B.Harp, T.Reed, H.Dirck) 4x400m (M.Schenck, I.Kennedy, C.Beard, S.Allebach) Next up for the Tigers is the Classic at Mishawaka Invite on Friday, April 17 and then their second NLC meet Wednesday, April 22 at NorthWood. Coach Erba, this was your team’s 30th NLC win in a row over the past 5 seasons. How do you prepare your team to keep the streak alive? “Each meet we go into with the mentality of being 0-0 with the opportunity to perform well and score enough points. As coaches, we put the time and effort into practice preparations and getting our athletes ready for meet day, but ultimately it is about every athlete doing his part to perform his best that night. When we have a lot of guys doing that, good results happen. The wins and losses really do not factor into our planning, it is all about preparation and execution. If we go out and perform our best with the best line up we can produce, we have to be happy and cannot be upset if another team happens to be better. That just gives us more incentive to work a bit harder and smarter moving forward. I am excited that our athletes continue to take on new roles and step into situations that they have not experienced before. Tonight, we needed to do some last minute relay line up changes and all of the athletes were eager to help however they could. “Whatever you need me to do, Coach.” is one of the greatest lines we coaches can hear from an athlete. This team has a special quality to it and we are excited to see what the upcoming weeks will bring.”
