The Warsaw Tigers closed out their Unified Flag Football season Saturday at the Sectional Tournament at Homestead, putting together another memorable day of competition. Warsaw opened the day with an impressive 36-14 victory over the Tippy Valley Vikings, advancing with a strong offensive performance and plenty of energy. In the second game, the Tigers faced the Carroll Chargers and battled hard before falling 51-14 to one of the top teams in the state. Carroll would go on to defeat Homestead 51-41 for the sectional title. Despite the loss, Warsaw put on a great show in both games, just as the Tigers had done throughout the entire season. Nathen Nette and Mason Anderson both found the end zone during the day, while Sensi Sprankle ran in an extra point and Anna Seewald caught a touchdown pass for the Tigers. “I have been really proud of this team all year,” said Coach Ryan Bricker. “Our players always played the game the right way, and our community and school can be very proud of how these Tigers represented their school.” Bricker also praised Nette, who has been a key part of the program for several seasons, saying, “Nathen Nette has had a great career as a Unified Tiger. He has been a huge part of our success over the years.” Yohannes Schmitt also capped an incredible two-year career with the Tigers, rewriting the Warsaw record books along the way. “I think you could safely say that we have never had a dual-threat player like Yohannes. He always gave us everything he had." Bricker said. Mason Anderson was also recognized for his impact beyond the field, with Bricker calling him “As kind and encouraging of a teammate as anyone could ever ask for. He has been an enormous part of the team’s culture." Autumn Columbia, who joined the team for the first time this season, made tremendous strides throughout the year and developed into a reliable offensive player for the Tigers. “Being the Unified Flag Football Coach has been an honor over the last few years,” Bricker said. “These kids have made this a very special program to be a part of. I am thankful for all of our players and their families. We will miss all of our seniors." Warsaw finished the season with a 6-3 record.
