Elkhart, IN — In a sectional matchup filled with intensity, heart, and the spirit of competition, the Warsaw Tigers boys volleyball team came up just short against the Penn Kingsmen on Thursday night at Elkhart High School. The tightly contested match ended in a 3-1 loss for the Tigers, with set scores of 23-25, 23-25, 25-21, and 24-26. Despite the loss, the evening was a testament to how far this team has come in its first-ever IHSAA-sanctioned season. The Tigers, competing in their inaugural year, showed poise, growth, and a deep sense of pride as they battled until the final point. Every rally was fought with heart, and every play echoed the progress of a group of young men who embraced the challenge of making history. Statistically, the Tigers were led by senior setter Deniel Ruzza, who dished out 33 assists, collected 8 digs, and added an ace. Senior Finn Bailey, playing in his final match in the Tiger jersey, left it all on the court with 15 digs, 3 aces, and 7 kills. Outside hitter Logan Carl contributed a balanced effort of 6 kills, 7 digs, and 3 blocks. Silas Hill added 7 digs, and junior Nolan Haussmann impressed in his first varsity start with 5 digs. In the middle, Levi Brath provided a strong net presence with 6 blocks and 7 kills. Junior Miles Rager powered the offense with 16 kills and 3 blocks. The loss brings the Tigers’ inaugural campaign to a close with a record of 10-8 — a remarkable achievement for a team learning the game from the ground up. “I could not have been more proud of how these young men played this season,” said head coach Jason Fleming. “They improved every time they stepped onto the court. I was amazed at how fast and well they picked up the skills to do what they have done.” While the season ends with a bittersweet defeat, the legacy of the 2025 Warsaw Tigers boys volleyball team is forever cemented in school history. These athletes were the first to wear the Tiger jersey in IHSAA boys volleyball competition. The first to step on the court. The first to compete. The first to win. The first to inspire. They are, and always will be, the "first." And with that, a foundation has been laid — one built on courage, commitment, and pride. Future generations of Warsaw boys volleyball players will follow the path these young men blazed, but none will ever hold the title of pioneers quite like this group. They made history. They wore it well. They did it TOGETHER…..
