Maggie Barnett is headed west to pole vault in college. WAY out west. Barnett announced at a signing event at WCHS Wednesday evening that she would be attending California State University San Marcos north of San Diego. " I’m going there because it is a lot warmer there," she said with a huge smile. "They are letting me pole vault, and it is in a beautiful location." She says she started pole vaulting when she was a freshman. "When I was a freshman year, I wanted to go over to the pole vault area but I was scared, so I made my sister, Winnie, go with me," Maggie says. She says the first time she cleared the bar, it was 6-feet high. Tuesday she won the sectional with a vault of 10-feet 6 inches, and she has posted vaults of over 11-feet in her senior season. Barnett has not decided on a major yet.
