Warsaw's softball team won their opening-round sectional game Wednesday, knocking off Goshen at the new Goshen softball complex 8-7 with a rally for the ages. With the score tied 5-5 after 6 innings, the Lady RedHawks scored twice in the top of the final frame to take a 7-5 advantage. But as the home team based on the IHSAA draw, the Lady Tigers got last bats. Down to their final out of the season in the final inning, El Walters and Addy Williams got base hits and Bayleigh Sleeth walked to load the bases. Addy Eastwood then drew a bases loaded walk to get Warsaw within a run. Kaitlyn Odell was hit by a pitch to force in another run to level the game at 7-7. Ayla Hatfield hit a lazer-beam-straight line drive and the game-winning run crossed the plate and set off a celebration. Hatfield, Williams, Reagan Robinson and Kaitlin O'Dell each had 2 hits for Warsaw. Hatfield drove in 3 runs. Inside the circle, Eastwood start the game and went 4.1 innings, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 5 hits. O'Dell pitched the remaining 2.2 innings, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits. Warsaw will play in the Elkhart in the sectional championship game Saturday at 10am at Goshen. The game was moved from Friday night to Saturday morning because Warsaw's graduation ceremony is Friday night. The Lady Lions beat Northridge 11-2 in the other semifinal.
