Warsaw Boys Rugby competed in the Fall 7-a-side tournament in Elkhart this weekend. This is the first time ever which Warsaw Boys Rugby has completed in Fall Rugby. After many weeks of preparation, Warsaw took the field against Carroll High school. Within two minutes Liam Smith crossed for a Try for Warsaw. Gage Young scored the conversion to leave Warsaw with an early lead. Warsaw adapted well to the 7-a-side tactics with good rucking and passing. Carroll, however, proved to be a stronger team and they advanced scoring tries to seal a 40-7 victory. This was a much improved performance by Warsaw as they secured rucks and made runs into opposition territory. Bishop Dwenger is a more established rugby program, and their fierce tackling resulted in a couple of injuries for Warsaw. This created gaps in the Warsaw defense and Bishop Dwenger increased their lead and beat the Tigers 31-0. This was a successful tournament for Warsaw Rugby as the program continues to grow and develop. They have gained valuable lessons from this tournament in adapting a 7-a-side squad. Fall Rugby takes place over four weekends in September and October. The next tournament will be in Westfield on September 28th.
